Passion

Michael and I have been married for 38 years

When we seek the favor of the Lord, He is ready to bless abundantly. My husband and I married when we were both very young, still in college. My heart cry was to do God’s will and his heart cry was for a wife who loved God. The first time we had a “heart to heart” discussion about our values, I was blown away by how much we thought alike. Although our families lived hundred of miles apart, our experiences were very different and yet our understanding of God lined up in miraculous ways. No wonder I said “I do” to my wonderful husband.

As a teenager, the love songs of the 70’s would often reflect my heart for Jesus. Passion for my “first love” was sweet. My time in prayer and Bible reading was more than just a pious activity. It was to deepen a relationship with the Savior who had reached out to me, intentionally and individually. The miracles I witnessed at 15 years old (when I was vocal about my doubts and asked for God’s help), helped me to see God’s willingness to not only answer my prayers but to deter all uncertainty.

This passage reminds me of that type of passion. The King was uncertain since Elisha the prophet was dying. Yet, Joash (whose father has sought the Lord’s favor), experienced true victory three times against those oppressing Israel. Passion is passed down from our “spiritual” parents in order to bless our lives.

Who has been instrumental in teaching you about Christ? Who has provided for you physically and spiritually by making an investment into your life? Remember that God ultimately rewards those who seek Him (and their families). -Teresa #Beritandfamily #Hans #Peter #Carly

I want to be passionate for those who are on God’s heart-showing His love to HIS family around the world!!❤️

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. – Hebrews 11:6

2 Kings 13:4-25 (ESV) 4 Then Jehoahaz sought the favor of the LORD, and the LORD listened to him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them.
5 (Therefore the LORD gave Israel a savior, so that they escaped from the hand of the Syrians, and the people of Israel lived in their homes as formerly.
6 Nevertheless, they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah also remained in Samaria.)
7 For there was not left to Jehoahaz an army of more than fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.
8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
9 So Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Joash his son reigned in his place.
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years.
11 He also did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin, but he walked in them.
12 Now the rest of the acts of Joash and all that he did, and the might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
13 So Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”
15 And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” So he took a bow and arrows.
16 Then he said to the king of Israel, “Draw the bow,” and he drew it. And Elisha laid his hands on the king’s hands.
17 And he said, “Open the window eastward,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot,” and he shot. And he said, “The LORD’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria! For you shall fight the Syrians in Aphek until you have made an end of them.”
18 And he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground with them.” And he struck three times and stopped.
19 Then the man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had made an end of it, but now you will strike down Syria only three times.”
20 So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year.
21 And as a man was being buried, behold, a marauding band was seen and the man was thrown into the grave of Elisha, and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.
22 Now Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23 But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them, and he turned toward them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, nor has he cast them from his presence until now.
24 When Hazael king of Syria died, Ben-hadad his son became king in his place.
25 Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities that he had taken from Jehoahaz his father in war. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel. – 2 Kings 13:4-25

Wise words

Early morning walk- almost summer solstice time!

Sometimes an early morning meditation will help clear our mind of worry or anxious thoughts. Even moreso, it can allow God’s Word and wisdom (the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom) to seep into our souls.

Quit striving with God. The more we argue, the more we will “kick against the goads”. The apostle Paul had one such conversion story. He was imprisoning Christians for their faith. In a day when prison led to certain death from a gladiator’s sword, Saul was considered merciless. Then, his name (aka character) was changed to Paul. Only an encounter with Jesus Christ the LORD can move us from stubborn resolve to a heart willing to suffer for His name.

In our daily relationships, we should stop striving with each other. End the quarrel before it begins (or you may be drowned in the deluge). Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God- Jesus (Matthew 5:9).

Judge rightly- Jesus (John 7:24). He alone can help us judge rightly beyond the worldly ways of politics, power and mere appearances.

An abomination to the Lord are those who side with the wicked, saying wickedness is goodness.

An abomination to the Lord are those who condemn the righteous, saying following God’s way does not look like that.

God’s way of righteousness always comes through the cross. When we take up our cross daily to follow Him, we too will forsake focusing on self to become more like Jesus. – Teresa

Proverbs 17:14-15 English Standard Version (ESV)

14 The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
so quit before the quarrel breaks out.
15 He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous
are both alike an abomination to the Lord.

His character

Ex. 34:6 The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,

When we first bought our home (26 years ago), we absolutely loved our backyard. There was enough room for the kids to roam. Three dogs later, we gave up on keeping the sprinkler lines working. The pandemic has provided extra time for my husband to complete the landscape projects we’ve been putting off. Our dog, Barbie, is old enough now to resist digging up lines!

Just as God worked with the nation of Israel, He is also willing to work with us.

God has time to give us a fresh start. He can restore our lives to that “beautiful” place we had been or hope to be. Maybe it was when we originally experienced the feelings of first love with Christ, where prayer was sweet. How wonderful to remember that God not only extends grace towards us but He abounds in steadfast love and faithfulness. – Teresa #restoration #readASevereMercy #lovestory #redemption=boughtback

I also want to acknowledge the current state of affairs in our country. Together, we can make a difference by embracing the compassion of our Savior. He touches us so that we can touch others with this same response of compassionate understanding. Empathy means we walk a moment in someone else’s shoes without judgment. #suspendjudgment #pray #givecompassion

Exodus 34:1-29 (ESV) 1 The LORD said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.
2 Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.
3 No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain. Let no flocks or herds graze opposite that mountain.”
4 So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first. And he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone.
5 The LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.
6 The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
8 And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped.
9 And he said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”
10 And he said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been created in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.
11 “Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
12 Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in your midst.
13 You shall tear down their altars and break their pillars and cut down their Asherim
14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),
15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and you are invited, you eat of his sacrifice,
16 and you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.
17 “You shall not make for yourself any gods of cast metal.
18 “You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.
19 All that open the womb are mine, all your male livestock, the firstborn of cow and sheep.
20 The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. And none shall appear before me empty-handed.
21 “Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
22 You shall observe the Feast of Weeks, the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end.
23 Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel.
24 For I will cast out nations before you and enlarge your borders; no one shall covet your land, when you go up to appear before the LORD your God three times in the year.
25 “You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover remain until the morning.
26 The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
27 And the LORD said to Moses, “Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”
28 So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. – Exodus 34:1-29

Determining the right thing

Windmills making electricity

What seems right for a person’s future may in fact be the ways of death. Adonijah thought he was right when asking Bathsheeba for Abishag, the beautiful Shunammite girl, to be his wife. King Solomon understood Adonijah’s request as a way to subvert their father’s plan. It did not end well for Adonijah. Similarly, Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit about their intentions to give less than what they had told Peter and the church leaders. It did not end well for them either.

The ways of death may seem right but without humbling ourselves to God’s will- they are not right. What can turn our humble actions into His kingdom come and His will be done? Just as the windmill converts the energy of the wind to electricity, we rely on God’s will to make an impact for eternity. It’s not always what seems right that we should be doing but what is right.

God ultimately is our judge and defender. He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts. When we allow ourselves to fall upon Him, we will he broken- (listen to sweetly broken by Jeremy Riddle).- Teresa #eternalife

Proverbs 16:25 (ESV). 25 There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death.[a]

Footnotes. Proverbs 16:25 Hebrew ways of death

IKings 2:14-25 (ESV) 14 Then he said, “I have something to say to you.” She said, “Speak.” 15 He said, “You know that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel fully expected me to reign. However, the kingdom has turned about and become my brother’s, for it was his from the Lord. 16 And now I have one request to make of you; do not refuse me.” She said to him, “Speak.” 17 And he said, “Please ask King Solomon—he will not refuse you—to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife.” 18 Bathsheba said, “Very well; I will speak for you to the king.”

19 So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him on behalf of Adonijah. And the king rose to meet her and bowed down to her. Then he sat on his throne and had a seat brought for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right. 20 Then she said, “I have one small request to make of you; do not refuse me.” And the king said to her, “Make your request, my mother, for I will not refuse you.” 21 She said, “Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as his wife.” 22 King Solomon answered his mother, “And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my older brother, and on his side are Abiathar[f] the priest and Joab the son of Zeruiah.” 23 Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, “God do so to me and more also if this word does not cost Adonijah his life! 24 Now therefore as the Lord lives, who has established me and placed me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today.” 25 So King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he struck him down, and he died.

Acts 5:1-11 (ESV) 5 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” 5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. 6 The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

7 After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you[a] sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

Suffering and thoughtfulness

God’s Word on our hearts, protecting our minds

Last night, I couldn’t sleep. In my restless state, comforting thought came to me. My husband had been reading W. Phillip Keller’s book, A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, and shared his insights with me. His idea of how needy we are as people for our Savior’s care was made beautiful as I recited the 23rd Psalm over and over.

It wasn’t long before I fell asleep. We can count sheep or remember our good shepherd as a cure for insomnia. The Lord Jesus Christ in this passage shows how capable He is to care for those He loves even in the midst of great suffering. – Teresa

So the soldiers did these things, 25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. Glory Divine

We watch as the hummingbirds and finches take “showers” and “dips” in our new fountain- simply enjoying the beauty of life as they know it!

Our front yard landscape- hummingbird fountain!

When Jesus glorified the Father- by accomplishing His work on earth, He then prayed for the Father to glorify Him-by bringing Him back to heaven. It was the joy of remembering the glory of heaven that helped Jesus bear the shame of the cross.

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)

Who is the founder and perfecter of our faith? The One who conquered sin’s curse- aka eternal separation from the Father. He is the One who was victorious over the sting of the grave.

54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 (ESV)

Glory divine is manifest by remembering it’s not my good works but His finished work on the cross that matters most. By humbling myself in faith (like a child), He is pleased and gives this gift of eternal life- aka to know God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent! – Teresa #unityinfaith #OnewiththeFatherSonandHolySpirit #loveforthebrethren #amazingyetsimple #welovebecauseHefirstlovedusIJohn4:19

12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

John 17 English Standard Version (ESV)

The High Priestly Prayer
17 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.[a] 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them[b] in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself,[c] that they also may be sanctified[d] in truth.

20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

Hebrew letter-WOW!

If you want to memorize the names of the letters in the Hebrew alphabet, they are listed in Psalm 119 (transliterated between each stanza of verses in the English).

Psalm 119 :41,42 (ESV)

Waw

41 Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord,
your salvation according to your promise;
42 then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me,
for I trust in your word.

This passage (under the letter waw) touched my heart this morning. God’s steadfast love is something we can count on. His word (The Bible) is our delight as it delivers love letters from Him. These words of hope transcend all time.

We all grapple with the taunting of this world system. We may find ourselves discouraged and even despairing during times such as these. What is the answer?

41 Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord,
your salvation according to your promise;
42 then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me,
for I trust in your word.

The Psalmist states it wonderfully, “for I trust in your word”.

Have you ever had to be around someone who is constantly trying to “one up” you? This also is a taunt (resulting from an insecure world system). Let the truth of this passage encourage you.

The truth will set you free. Jesus said this to His earliest followers,

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” – John 8:31-33

Just like them, we may feel like we’re a slave to nothing: free as the wind. Are we truly free or are we enslaved by a need to prove ourselves? Does this proving turn to sin?

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. – John 8:34

Abiding in Christ’s word means we spend time clearing our vision each day. If we are being washed of water with the WORD then we will be refreshed in our soul and secured in His perspective. – Teresa

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. – Ephesians 5:25-27

Cure for most of life’s trials

My daughter’s beautiful eyes

Although my daughter is a natural beauty, she is not fooled by those who hide in sheep’s clothing. She also has the gift of discernment. This is similar to David, who sensed that his life was in mortal danger (because of Saul, God’s annointed).

Jonathon and David were close friends. Jonathon’s father, King Saul, was jealous of David. Mostly, he envied that God’s presence was on David. His feelings of being inadequate, as the first King of Israel, led to insane jealousy of the One who would replace him. Never underestimate the danger of jealous anger.

David was about to enter a period of extreme testing but he would come through more solid than ever. God established David’s kingdom and never failed to be his refuge.

God first chose a big man who was small in his own eyes (Saul- 1 Samuel 15:17). Later, He was sorry He made that choice and fully tested the next man (David). David may have been smaller in physical appearance but he was greater in stature because he saw his problems through God’s eyes (I Samuel 17:46,47-David and Goliath).

God chose David, a man after His own heart (I Samuel 13:14), who would lead the children of Israel like a shepherd.- Teresa

I Samuel 20:12- 21:15 ( ESV)

12 And Jonathan said to David, “The Lord, the God of Israel, be witness![a] When I have sounded out my father, about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if he is well disposed toward David, shall I not then send and disclose it to you? 13 But should it please my father to do you harm, the Lord do so to Jonathan and more also if I do not disclose it to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. May the Lord be with you, as he has been with my father. 14 If I am still alive, show me the steadfast love of the Lord, that I may not die; 15 and do not cut off[b] your steadfast love from my house forever, when the Lord cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth.” 16 And Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May[c] the Lord take vengeance on David’s enemies.” 17 And Jonathan made David swear again by his love for him, for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

18 Then Jonathan said to him, “Tomorrow is the new moon, and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty. 19 On the third day go down quickly to the place where you hid yourself when the matter was in hand, and remain beside the stone heap.[d] 20 And I will shoot three arrows to the side of it, as though I shot at a mark. 21 And behold, I will send the boy, saying, ‘Go, find the arrows.’ If I say to the boy, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you, take them,’ then you are to come, for, as the Lord lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger. 22 But if I say to the youth, ‘Look, the arrows are beyond you,’ then go, for the Lord has sent you away. 23 And as for the matter of which you and I have spoken, behold, the Lord is between you and me forever.”

24 So David hid himself in the field. And when the new moon came, the king sat down to eat food. 25 The king sat on his seat, as at other times, on the seat by the wall. Jonathan sat opposite,[e] and Abner sat by Saul’s side, but David’s place was empty.

26 Yet Saul did not say anything that day, for he thought, “Something has happened to him. He is not clean; surely he is not clean.” 27 But on the second day, the day after the new moon, David’s place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, “Why has not the son of Jesse come to the meal, either yesterday or today?” 28 Jonathan answered Saul, “David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem. 29 He said, ‘Let me go, for our clan holds a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has commanded me to be there. So now, if I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away and see my brothers.’ For this reason he has not come to the king’s table.”

30 Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman, do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? 31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Therefore send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.” 32 Then Jonathan answered Saul his father, “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” 33 But Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him. So Jonathan knew that his father was determined to put David to death. 34 And Jonathan rose from the table in fierce anger and ate no food the second day of the month, for he was grieved for David, because his father had disgraced him.

35 In the morning Jonathan went out into the field to the appointment with David, and with him a little boy. 36 And he said to his boy, “Run and find the arrows that I shoot.” As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. 37 And when the boy came to the place of the arrow that Jonathan had shot, Jonathan called after the boy and said, “Is not the arrow beyond you?” 38 And Jonathan called after the boy, “Hurry! Be quick! Do not stay!” So Jonathan’s boy gathered up the arrows and came to his master. 39 But the boy knew nothing. Only Jonathan and David knew the matter. 40 And Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy and said to him, “Go and carry them to the city.” 41 And as soon as the boy had gone, David rose from beside the stone heap[f] and fell on his face to the ground and bowed three times. And they kissed one another and wept with one another, David weeping the most. 42 Then Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, because we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord shall be between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring, forever.’” And he rose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.[g]

David and the Holy Bread

21 [h] Then David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. And Ahimelech came to meet David, trembling, and said to him, “Why are you alone, and no one with you?” 2 And David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has charged me with a matter and said to me, ‘Let no one know anything of the matter about which I send you, and with which I have charged you.’ I have made an appointment with the young men for such and such a place. 3 Now then, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever is here.” 4 And the priest answered David, “I have no common bread on hand, but there is holy bread—if the young men have kept themselves from women.” 5 And David answered the priest, “Truly women have been kept from us as always when I go on an expedition. The vessels of the young men are holy even when it is an ordinary journey. How much more today will their vessels be holy?” 6 So the priest gave him the holy bread, for there was no bread there but the bread of the Presence, which is removed from before the Lord, to be replaced by hot bread on the day it is taken away.

7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord. His name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul’s herdsmen.

8 Then David said to Ahimelech, “Then have you not here a spear or a sword at hand? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.” 9 And the priest said, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you struck down in the Valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it, for there is none but that here.” And David said, “There is none like that; give it to me.”

David Flees to Gath

10 And David rose and fled that day from Saul and went to Achish the king of Gath. 11 And the servants of Achish said to him, “Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances,

‘Saul has struck down his thousands,
and David his ten thousands’?”
12 And David took these words to heart and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13 So he changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands and made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard. 14 Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me? 15 Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to behave as a madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?”

Waiting for joy

My daughter’s best friend last fall

There are times when we must wait for joy. When the time is right it will appear!

John 7: 25-30 (ESV)

25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? 26 And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? 27 But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.” 28 So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. 29 I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.” 30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

Jesus came to fill the hopes of the Jewish nation for Messiah. While watching “The Chosen” episode 2 last night, I realized how the Jewish custom of “shabbat” (as re-enacted by the superb cast), was a sacred time of remembrance. This peaceful time, resting from daily work, was celebrated in the presence of Jesus. He is the ONE capable of doing all the significant work for spiritual deliverance. They had not yet discovered his role as Christ, but felt honored to be in the presence of the Rabbi.

What a wonderful Lord we have to open up heaven for us. He allows us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Not only does His sacrifice make us right with God but also provides “eternal life” , when we receive Him as Lord.

Today, for us-our world has slowed down significantly. Do we rest and bask in the peace and presence of our Savior?- Teresa #thebattlebelongstotheLORD #myjoycomplete #thechosen
